On a mission intended to save endangered animals on a collapsing planet, Leela and the crew run into legendary starship captain Zapp Brannigan. A self-proclaimed ladies man, Zapp sees Leela as a potential new conquest. When the captain refuses to aid the animal rescue, Leela and her crew try to leave Zapp’s starship, the Nimbus; but Zapp throws Fry and Bender in jail, and summons Leela to his “Lovenasium.” They ultimately escape and arrive on the doomed planet, where Leela finally finds love; with a cute, and very useful, creature named Nibbler.

The Planet Express crew deliver a package to Chapek 9, a planet inhabited entirely by human-hating robots who kill humans on sight. Bender is sent to deliver the package alone, but is captured upon discovery that he works for humans, so Fry and Leela disguise themselves as robots and infiltrate the robot society. When they find Bender, they discover that Bender has made himself an idol among the other robots out of frustration of feeling unappreciated by his crew. Fry and Leela are captured, but Bender refuses to kill his friends. They soon learn that the planet’s government is merely using humans as a scapegoat to distract the population from a valuable lug nut shortage. The three escape the planet and Bender, remembering he forgot to deliver the package, drops it onto the robots chasing them, revealing a shower of lug nuts and causing the robots to renounce their human-hating ways.

Leela is feeling lonely, unable to meet a worthwhile guy. Professor Farnsworth sends the crew on a tax-deductible charity mission to evacuate wildlife from the doomed planet Burgon 6. While approaching the planet, Leela is thrilled to meet the legendary Captain Zapp Brannigan, who is policing the sector. Upon closer inspection, Brannigan turns out to be a pompous dimwit (who also thinks he’s God’s gift to women). Brannigan throws the Planet Express crew in jail for violating the planet’s security cordon, but tries to seduce Leela. When his clumsy attempts to appear suave and sophisticated fail, he scores with pathetic crying. Leela gets the crew released, and they collect wildlife from Burgon 6, but the mission fails when the last animal collected turns out to be a tiny, voracious killing machine that consumes all the other animals. Leela names him Nibbler. Trapped on the collapsing planet without fuel, Leela refuses to go crawling back to Zapp. Then Nibbler excretes a lump of combustible rocket fuel, and the ship is saved.
